Back in The Day when I was an aspiring magician, one of the first great truths I learned about people is that we almost always take the path of least resistance. It's a natural human tendency, and magicians count on it all the time.
I was recently talking with one of my children about the "we do it this way cuz we've always done it this way" and the popular "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentalities, both subsets of the path of least resistance. They are excuses for maintaining status quo, for not doing anything new or exciting. Just because something doesn't readily appear broken does not mean it isn't. Sometimes a process dies a slow death and doesn't just "break" overnight, but we "trick ourselves" into doing nothing by applying these catchy cliches. If we're always looking for a way to do it better, there's a lot greater chance of discovering just that.
Don't wait. Innovate.
Innovation is the antithesis of the path of least resistance. It requires new thinking and stepping outside one's comfort zone, into that new place where great things happen.
